About

We are innovation enthusiasts. We love tools that combine value with simplicity.

We love using great tools like the Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Canvas to succinctly communicate new ideas. However our knowledge of these tools came from years of acquired knowledge.

That’s why we started The Canvas Library. A one-stop shop to find amazing canvas tools to help you grow your idea/business/startup/company/organisation.

What is a canvas?

A canvas is a tool what Dave Gray from XPLANE does a great job explaining the difference between maps, models and canvases in his Medium post.

“As an artist I think of a canvas as a working space. A blank canvas is simply a white rectangle with no preconceptions other than flatness. In the context I think you mean, a canvas is a kind of template, a visualized model that is intentionally left blank for others to use.” – Dave Gray, XPLANE)

Why use a canvas?

A canvas facilitates guided thinking on a subject to identify the key elements which helps you to achieve the desired outcome. For example, the Business Model Canvas allows a user to “describe, design, challenge, invent, and pivot your business model”. A canvas is not a silver bullet, but it is certainly a great place to start.

Good strategy works by focusing energy and resources on one, or a very few, pivotal objectives whose accomplishment will lead to a cascade of favourable outcomes.
